This one day itinerary is highlighted by visits to the Aquarium and 17 Miles Drive. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is located on the site of a former sardine cannery. It has an annual attendance of 1.8 million and holds 35,000 plants and animals representing 623 species. It is also one of the most famous research conservation facilities on the West Coast.
As the tour continues to down the California coastline, 17 Miles Drive Scenic drive is also not to be missed. There are numerous turnouts along the road to stop for photo opportunities. Chief among these is the Lone Cypress Tree, which also happens to be official symbol of the famous Pebble Beach.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Located at the ocean's edge, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a window to marine life -- for dive masters and non-swimmers alike.
It's home to sea otters, penguins, sharks, jellies and thousands of other marine animals and plants. Its mission is to inspire conservation of the oceans.
17 Miles Drive
17-Mile Drive is widely recognized as one of the most scenic drives in the world.
The famous coastal landmark runs through Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach, from the dramatic Pacific coastline to the majestic Del Monte Forest.
The awe-inspiring vistas and legendary sites can easily fill an entire day with exploration and discovery, although visitors with less time should not miss the opportunity to experience this wondrous journey as well.
Marvel at some of nature’s treasures found along 17-Mile Drive including The Lone Cypress – one of California’s best-known landmarks – Spanish Bay, Cypress Point Lookout and Carmel Bay. You can also see the emerald fairways of The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill and the world-renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links.
